color story:
Indigo Red

for inspiration credits and links visit us on pinterest
Here's the question:
When do you know a color trend is starting?
For me there's always an "aha" moment that makes me chuckle.  It happened early last spring. I started getting calls from our designers discussing future collections and one after another everyone brought up the concept of Navy with Red (various kinds of red)
They had no idea I was working along the same line or that the other designers were too.
I really do believe we're a lot more connected to each other in matters of color trends than we realize.  It happens on such a subconscious level we barely notice.
sometimes the simplest things just stop you in your tracks.
We'd just  parked the car and in that instant of stepping out of the car and looking up, there it was the perfect picture:
Photographer and designer Trenna Travis and I were on an impromptu weekend photo shoot last summer around Northern California with a lot of ground to cover to get it all done.
Hog Island Oyster Farm was worth the drive and perfect for the
Indigo Red color story.
 maybe it's the color story,
maybe it's the destination
or
maybe it's these prints that put you in that
"get up and get away" kinda mood.
Whatever the case, 1 yard each of these
from our Indigo Red story could be yours;
just share your "aha moment" when you realized that color story you're attracted to is part of a trend.
winner to be announced next Wednesday

Red and Blue combos are not what I usually choose, but I love the examples you chose.

I'm usually the one that sees a trend and then thinks oh yeah, I like those Colorado!

my aha moment comes when I'm working on a project and then begin looking at blogs and other peoples projects, and we all have the same basic color concepts..

Unfortunately my color story has yet to become a trend! Some day it will though....I know because all the color trends are slowly getting closer to it! =)

I'm waiting for mine to be a color story. I love dark rich purple and granny smith green, but it's nowhere to be found.

My aha moment is when I get inspired and cashed up to go fabric shopping at my LQS and find there is so much to choose from in the colour palette I had planned in my head!

My 'aha' moment is when I sit down to compose an email to a friend, to tell her all about this great color combo I want to work on, and she calls me to tell me about "this great color combo she's working on!" HA! :)

Not that I am a real trend setter, but an aha moment is when you think you like a particular colour and then you seem to be seeing it everywhere...
Blue and red in combination with white and I feel like being on holiday at the coast. Great, can't wait for the summer!

My 'aha moment' would be when I go shopping and suddenly see the colours that I like absolutely everywhere!
Thanks for the giveaway - I love indigo and red with white for summer.

oh those are great colors. You find them alot along the coast in So Many different places. LOVE them. You can almost hear/smell the ocean, feel the wind and sun. Oh, back to aha moments. I have no big ones, but do find it amusing when I have started something and then find so much of the same thing in so many blogs. Makes me feel not so old and outta style! ha.

I think I have LOTS of color stories, this one, the red and blue, for me is a reminder of my birthday (in July) and warm Summer weather, and having travelled to Britain twice, both times in early Summer, these prints reinforce that Summer red & blue color story!

Love the navy and red! One of my favourite colour combinations and such a classic.

That's so funny that you brought up this color combo. This weekend, I bought some of the Jason Wu clothing pieces from Target. My favorites were the blue and red outfits, yet red is something I almost never wear. Lately I've been wearing red lipstick, and I've been wondering if I'm following a trend without being aware of it.

This isnt my fave combos but I love the Americana summer cottage feel to the prints...makes me crave nicer weather

These fabrics are so cute - the indigo and red remind me of the weathered colors we see around our rural area.
Tangerine Orange and a turquoisey blue with yellow accents - the finished quilt was on my mother's bed before tango tangerine was announced as the 2012 color of the year. Who knew that we were so fashion forward!

I find that I'm almost always a step behind the color trends! I start seeing several colors on the fabric store sales pages and think they look so great, I purchase them, and then find that they are colors that are going out of style - the reason for them being on sale! Really I don't mind because I'm not a trend follower and I get more fabric for my money.

Yeah I'm pretty much always behind the color trends too! I love jewel tones...but not always with the trend! I wish I was more on trend!

I often find I might be a bit ahead of trend. I often do something with colors I love and then I pick a quilt magazine and will see that trend in it. I just love color. In fact I am going to make a quilt for my husband of fabric I bought about three years ago and it is navy and red.

My Aha moment was when you posted last about aqua and red; my favourite!

I love reds and blues, leaning more towards the blues, though. I al always drawn toward the blue fabrics. They are very calming to me and always have been. Thanks for the giveaway chance.

love it and I didn't even realize it was a trend.

Usually the only way I know a trend is when I see it repeated in newsletters I get from quilt fabric stores. Some trends I like, and some I don't, but I do like your combinations a lot!

It's funny, because some colors are just hard to come by & then all of a sudden they start popping up more & more. I've always liked some shades of purple & I'm glad to see more & more of it out there

When I'm Sorting out my fabric shelves and I see blogs with the same color quilts!

I'm a HUGE fan of red. I love red & teal together, and noticed it EVERYWHERE a few months ago.

For me, it's when I can suddenly find color combos I've been collecting piecemeal for some time.

Red and blue will never go out of style, but this barn-red version is especially nice.

Hi,

I love to read crafty blogs.

If, at a certain point, one blog after the other, starts to show of a certain fabric / color / pattern, I now, this one is the new trend.

In Germany this was the case for "mustard (yellow)" this winter.

Weird, really...

And then I went to GAP and what did I buy?
I mustard and white striped T-Shirt *lol*

Greetings,
Tina

I realize that I'm in tune with a trend when I see fabrics that I want, not just something that will suit me or the project, but something that I yearn for!

I think it is when you start to do something, make something, read something and then discover the same trends appearing across all craft forms. It always amazes me how trends seem to appear from disparate sources across the world at the same time.

I haven't really had an "aha moment", I just love colour and different combinations. The Indigo Red combination is really cool and fresh.

Me? Notice a trend? I am pretty slw to the party most of the time. But I love red, white and blue . When we were first married, we bought blue and white ticking stripe furniture and we loved it until the day it finally died. Everything in our living room, kitchen and bathroom were red white and blue. Hm.....maybe I should do that again! Aha! There it is!

Thank you for the chance.

Aha moment? How about a "HA!" moment? I am NEVER attracted to the color trend. But Indigo and Red? I am ALWAYS attracted to them.

Jackie said...

I'm loving dark gray and lime green right now, though not seeing the combo anywhere. sigh. I'm not too trendy. :) Have always loved blue and red!

I recently entered a contest to pick the best fabric bundle and I thought I was so original picking orange, purple and pale blue. There were no less than ten orange and purple bundles and a half dozen more purple and pale blue ones in the entries. Too funny!

Wow! I didn't know these colors were a trend. The fabrics shown would go great with the two distressed blue & red nautical themed ones I found a few weeks ago for my grandson's first quilt. Shall we say... Cape Cod Summer?

I love the Indigo/Red collection. Those pennants and scooters are so cute! I don't usually think in terms of color stories, just what catches my eye or what mood I'm in. Lately it's the combination of cool and warm colors.

I'm always a bit behind. But that's OK because everything come back around and in style again!

Nature has a lot of colours...that's where I see most of the seasonal trends that inspire me...this one is like a day with snow on the ground, a blue jay and cardinal coming to look for bird seed at the old wooden bird feeder!

Sewgirl said...

I understand that Orange is the next big color trend...it's a sign that the economy is picking up. Bright colors indicate that things are on the bright side!

The indigo and red are classics, which I love, but I'm stuck on turqoise and red--the color of my Sonic cup AND the colors of The Cat in the Hat. (My favorite for more than 40 years!)
