Houston, we have a problem. No, not really. We're just in lock-down mode getting ready for Quilt Market in 10 days!
I'll share a very special sneak peek tomorrow.
But for now, I thought I'd share some real life, behind the scenes shots of life here in the west coast studio. Inspired by J. Caroline's blog posting of real life in the studio. I'm ready to come clean (not to be confused with "cleaning"). It doesn't get more "real" than right before Quilt Market. Actually, this picture is pretty organized, being you can still see the floor. Trust me, that will disappear in the next few days, as things get down to the wire. Since I'm a "visual" person I like to have everything out where I can see it. "Out of sight, out of mind" Everything at my fingertips.
Here's my prized possession, the Featherweight 221 passed on to me from my Mom. She became a Home Ec. teacher with this and passed it on to me when I started sewing. I have a fancy schmancy machine (needs servicing) and an expandable sewing table (no room to open it up at the moment), but as you can see, this fits well on the only uncluttered space left.
Hooray for visual people! I have to have my fabric laying all over the floor or I forget it's there. I'm sure it will all come together JUST in time. :o)
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness! I have the same Featherweight. It was my Granny's and I was sewing on it until my hubby bought me a new machine.
ReplyDeleteThe ruffler foot is FANTASTIC and it sure does love to sew Michael Miller fabrics. :)
I am SO glad that it's not just me.. I love it when other people's quilt studios are in as much of a state of disaster as mine is.
ReplyDeleteAcutally, my WHOLE basement looks like a warehouse / pattern shop. I have tables set up for collating and stuffing patterns and racks to put the patterns on when they are done. I told my husband, I could just have a sale here and not go to market (then I thought NO WAY, I would miss all of the FUN)!!!
Love the featherweight too.
see you at market!

Oh I win because you can't see my floor. I actually biffed it last night-into a soft pile of fabric of course.
ReplyDeleteYour blog today made me a little sad b/c I sooo wish I could go to Houston again this year. Last year -for the first time-- I got to go to Quilt Market with my mom. She was a local quilt shop owner that passed on the love of quilting/sewing to me. Unfortunately - she passed away unexpectedly during the year (we actually spent our last time together with a MM fabric salesman and ordered fabric for 4 hours on the day before she died -- a great memory I will always have). Quilt Market last year was an awesome experience and I especially loved the Michael Miller Dick and Jane scenes...and of course we bought TONS of MM Fabrics for her store. Hope you have a great Quilt Market experience and I can't wait to see the sneak peek.
ReplyDeleteOh, kathy!!! My rooms look just like this! We have so much in common!
ReplyDeleteCannot wait to see the new lines!

What is Quilt Market anyway? I keep reading about it. I live in Houston and I am a new sewer. I haven't tackled a quilt yet but I am in the process of picking out fabrics to make my first (very simple) quilt. Is this an industry show or is it beneficial for the everyday sewer as well? I am just curious if I shoud try to jump in on the action.
ReplyDeleteIt looks strangely similar to my studio, which seems to be the entire house now. Wonder where i could have picked it up from.

I have a Featherweight too--given to me by my mother who still sews on the one she took to college (as a home ec major). My sister has one too, and mom has a couple stashed for the grandgirls when they get old enough!
