oh, PERFECT timing on the chef's hat pattern, thanks! I'm going to a Tube Station fancy dress party tomorrow night and was planning on whipping up one tomorrow! (I'm wearing dark grey trousers and top, hence, Baker Street!)
So adorable! And what a coincidence -- just this morning I was thinking to myself that I had to order the same cupcake print to make little aprons for my girls!
I am thrilled you posted this tutorial. I will be making two sets for my little friends who I build gingerbread houses with every Christmas. But I will use gingerbread men or gingerbread houses for a pattern. Thanks so much.
dear Nico and Marie - Joanna and I have been looking into what might be the problem you're having opening the hat tut. we've had friends open it in different browsers (mozilla, firefox, explorer - all ok - so - pls email me at info@michaelmillerfabrics.com with your address and I'll mail you a printout. sorry for the problem
I just made the apron using the same cupcake/dot fabric for my neice's bday next month. OMG!...it is just so cute!! I love making quilted items, usually steer clear of wearables but decided to give the tutorial a try. Super easy! I'm planning on making one for each neice & nephew bday this yr. Thank you for posting the pattern!
Hmmm I tried in both Firefox and IE but couldn't download the hat pattern. I'll try from work tomorrow, perhaps a different system will be the charm :)
Hello, thanks for such a wonderful pair of tutorials. I have several kids in my life who will now become the beneficiaries of your generosity (including my own 18 month old in a few years' time!).
Re the chef's hat: I did a gathering stitch (stitch size four on your machine, same as a basting stitch) 1/2 inch in around the perimeter of the crown. I then gathered it all in to fit the band, by pulling and easing on the bobbin thread. It seemed an easier way to get an even result with the pleats. I used a 1/4" seam, but in hindsight, 1/2" would've been better. To attach band and crown, I went over that line of stitching/basting with a regular stitch. I sewed with the band side up, gathered side down. It worked really well,I love it so much. It looks much harder than it is. I found using this method I didn't need to bother with so many pins of matching ironed creases. BTW, this will not fit an adult head - or at least mine (my noggin is of Clive Owen proportions, and I'm a chick!). I'm not sure what age it would go to -- I think Joanna might have mentioned something about sizing on her blog. I hope this helps I'm now hanging out for Monday morning to buy some D-rings so I can finish. Oh and while I love the straps in teh original pattern, I also love Joanna's solution of using cream cotton webbing tape. that stuff just looks and feels so nice,and... i don't know,.... cheffy somehow! E-Lo
Thank you so much for posting these beautiful apron and hat patterns! My 3 yr old daughter just said that she needs to have a hat and apron and I've been looking everyone online for something fun. I don't really sew, but I would definitely be willing to try so she can have something cool! Thank you!
