Now for today's color story:
The number one complaint I get is :
"There's not enough "boy" prints out there!"
No matter how many we do, it's never enough!
What they're really talking about is a very specific color range.
Here's the no-nos in that palette:
pink, magenta, lavender - anything that suggests "girl"
when it comes down to what to make in whatever pallet for the
"little guy in your life"
we've got
OPTIONS!
Sarah Jane's sweet and sophisticated boy's groups from her collection:
Children at Play
After School
and
Over the fence
or
Emily Herrick's primary colors with accents of gray and orange
Going Coastal
or
for a modern twist on
"blue for boys"
we tried Aqua and gray.
With Aqua's soothing universal appeal and the softness of gray
it's a winner
and speaking of winners
it's that time again
leave your comment and share your thoughts.
A random winner will be announced next wed.
and
receive 1 yd of each of the "it's a boy" prints shown above.
Next Wed. will be Rouge et Noir!

Love that color combination - it's so soothing!
ReplyDeletei just bought two of those prints (the bicycle and the animals) in flannel and they're AMAZING! i love them!
ReplyDeleteLove the aqua & gray! The animals are adorable and you can never have too many dots!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me?!?! I LOVE this series! Of course, I had just finished "designing" the Going Coastal quilt in my head... Hmmm... it's not wrong for my son to have TWO quilts, right!?
ReplyDeleteI love the modern colors and design of this line. So cute.
ReplyDeleteI have two boys so this subject is very relavent to me. I have to say grey used to be my least favorite color, but they are using it in so many interesting ways these days it's quickly becoming a favorite. Love some of the new prints with grey and aqua!
ReplyDeleteIt's adorable!
ReplyDeleteI have two boys at home, five and two, and they'd both love this.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
I've got a little girl that loves blue; she could use some cute prints-it's hard to find!

ReplyDeleteI agree it can be hard to find boys prints but they are out there you just have to keep looking. I have been slowly pulling together prints for a quilt for my son. It's nice to see a line where all the prints would work. I love the color palette on this line so cute!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that palate for boys!
ReplyDeleteI love boy prints to use for making diaper bags that fathers won't be embarrassed to carry. It's nice to have a change from the usual bright red or vivid blue that often fill boy prints.
ReplyDeleteLove the blue and grey combinations. Not just for boys me thinks. Would be happy to use these prints throughout my house! :D
ReplyDeleteLove these prints! And my boy would too!
ReplyDeleteI saw this line a couple weeks ago and I fell in love! I am having a baby boy in October. Lets just say, if I win, that gives me just enough time to make a ridiculously adorable quilt! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful prize! Keeping fingers crossed for this adorable set. Thank you =)
ReplyDeleteVery calm colors! I'm loving the animal all over print.
ReplyDeleteI love this color combination! I am having a little boy in November and may use some of this fabric!
ReplyDeleteThat color combo is awesome and so retro! I love it!! It sure would be fun to make some boy stuff for my two little guys with it!!
ReplyDeleteI make baby blankets and it's always hard to find the all boy color fabrics. Love this color story!!
ReplyDeleteI have one girl & 2 boys. I'm always on the look out for things for my boys!! <3 that fabric above super cute
ReplyDeleteI am loving this new trend of aqua and gray!
ReplyDeleteI love all shades of blue. I love the designs in the fabric and could find many uses for it. Maybe I might just share, too.
ReplyDeleteBeckie in Brentwood, TN
Love it. It would be perfect for my sons room. I do feel like there is never enough boy stuff, but this is great.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the collection, just had a boy in June, time for some quilt making. Hope I'm lucky :)
ReplyDeleteDmpls5150@yahoo.com
I love this color story. I have a daughter and another on the way, but I love putting them (well, her, so far) in boy colors.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a fan of primary colors, which seem to make up most "boy" prints, so these are great to me!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a boy so I do not purchase very much boyish themed fabric. But I love Sarah Jane's collection. It made me wish I had a boy! I even bought two of the "boy" prints to put into my daughter's quilt I am making out of her fabric line because I loved them so much. The aqua and gray of your colorstory is great!
ReplyDeleteMy SO would most probably fell for the animal and bicycle prints, no matter what I'd use them for. He truly is crazy for blue and white.
ReplyDeleteI love this color combination! I would have never thought of gray and blue together for little boys, but it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI have been the sewing frustrated mother of two grown boys and now I have a grandson. This is a refreshing, playful color palate. So many project ideas, so little time. Hide the credit card!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to find boy prints. I absolutely love this collection and would be honored to be able to create with it!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many baby boys that have been born in my environment and I know that their mamas would love these fabrics and colors so much.
~Christina

ReplyDeleteThese fabrics are beautiful, but on the other hand which MM fabrics aren't?? I just love ALL your stuff, so much my husband even told me he is going to cut me off the bank account if I keep getting any more LOL
ReplyDeleteLucie
Love the aqua and grey! Such a relaxing color combo. And I love the animal print. I can imagine the possibilities already!!!
ReplyDeleteOh...my...GEEZY! I have nothing but boys all around me and this collection is absolutely AMAZING! I love it. What could I do with this stash????? EVERYTHING!

ReplyDeleteSo cute! Perfect for boys of all ages!!
ReplyDeleteI love these prints! So soothing and beautiful! And I happen to have an almost four year old son and two year old nephew, so I have a use for them too!
ReplyDeleteI love the color combination - it's nice to see something other than the traditional boy colors.
ReplyDeleteI like this color combination. However, these are way muted for a vibrant kid. My nephew loves red, so he'd totally not dig these. I love how grey is making a comeback, I'm a huge fan of the light grey, especially in the Central Park line.
ReplyDeleteLove these fabrics and it's so nice to see boy fabrics that are not based on a blue/red/green combo. The aqua and grey look fab together! Would work in perfectly to the quilt I'm about to start for my little boy ;-)
ReplyDeleteMore gorgeous prints! I absolutely adore Sarah Janes fabrics the most adorable prints of the season in my opinion
ReplyDeletehave always loved blues and grays -- must be a northwest ocean passion in my life!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness the best combination of boy fabrics I have seen! LOVE them!!
ReplyDeleteI love these fabric combos. It's true there is a low selection of boys patterns. These are adorable.
ReplyDeleteWhile I have girls, we know plenty of little "boys" who would benefit from something made of these lovely colors!
ReplyDeleteI love this color combo!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!! My random comment for the day is that my daughter is jumping rope with a necklace and I think she is going to fall flat on her face.

ReplyDeletelove your colour combos! I've got a little bit of two of those prints, but boy I'd love to have more! lol
ReplyDeleteI have two boys - one's favorite color is blue, the other's is green. It is a great way to distinguish whose stuff is whose - until it is time for hand-me-downs.
ReplyDeleteA great color combo. Every week has been fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the aqua and grey combination! All of my little guys would love it if I made something out of those prints.

ReplyDeleteWonderful combinations of patterns/colors for the little boys in our lives!

I have 4 boys and over a 24 friends having babies this year!! Crazy I know....would love to be able to make some homemade gifts for all of them :)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have been searching for boys prints that I love, I have so many girly fabrics so I need to even out my sewing room :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I LOVE the citron!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I love all the dots you have been doing. My compliments to you on this color palette and on getting SarahJane's designs on fabric - I love the rocketships and all the supporting prints.
ReplyDeleteI love the use of polka dots for boys!!! It is something you do not see everyday. My little man might have to have pj bottoms out of it.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm having a baby boy in 3 short weeks and would love to get my hands on that fabric for him!
ReplyDeletehave some of that in flannel that i picked up! SOOO cute!! Hoping to win this entire lineup!!!!
ReplyDeletei really prefer my boy to be exposed to a full rainbow of color...as much as i like these fabrics, they dont necessarily speak "boy" to me. I recently made my son a color wheel quilt for his bed, pink, lavender, magenta and all!
ReplyDeleteAs a Mom to a boy I agree, there are not as much boy fabric as girl fabric. But it's like that with everything comparing boy to girl.
ReplyDeleteginger c at gmail dot com
These fabrics look awesome and not too boyish that I wouldn't use them for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there are not as many boy prints as there are girl prints. These are beautiful and I would love to win them. Take care and God bless, Cory
ReplyDeleteLove this combo so much. Wish all this male goodness would be shipping now. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteThe color combo is great -- so fresh and modern!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to make a quilt for my little boy out of these wonderful fabrics!
ReplyDeleteAs a mother of a boy, I don't mind pink, purple, or other "feminine" colors. However, I don't put him in pink flowers. When I say that it's hard to find good prints for boys it's because I have a hard time finding prints that aren't floral or too juvenile. With a three year old I'm looking for fabrics that don't scream "baby" and "precious." If it's too cutesy I'm not likely to buy the fabric. Happily, the Boy Bundle above doesn't cross that line, I'd be happy to give those fabrics a home!
ReplyDeleteLove these colors together!!
ReplyDeletethank you, thank you for gray! i'm having our 2nd, a boy, in december and have my heart set on using gray in the nursery. LOVE these fabrics and can't wait to use them!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely line of fabric. I have five boys (Yep, FIVE), and I love finding fabric that is made specifically for boys. (Though I have to admit, I love looking at it too!)
ReplyDeletethepaulsons(at)gmail.com
So fun to see something besides car fabric for boys!!!
ReplyDeleteWith 2 brand new grandsons, I could certainly put this really cute line to good use. Thanks for the chance to win.

ReplyDeletePerfect colors for a baby boys room. I have a grandson to be born in late September and I would love to have these for his nursery.
ReplyDeleteOK, I have girls, but I love the grey and aqua. I would love to cover some chairs, make some curtain. It would make a stunning room.

ReplyDeletetanisanderson at shaw dot ca
Love these prints. Now I lust need to wait to find out the gender of my brother's baby. Then I'll know what to buy.
ReplyDeleteThis lilne is so on my shopping list the next time we are in the states. With a year old DGS I need all the boy prints I can get. I have sewn for his sister since she was born and really need to get busy for him al little more.
ReplyDeleteFun colors! I do think these would still be appropriate for a girl! :)
ReplyDeletei like the color combinations. it feels like a palette that equally works for small fry and older boys (and girls.
ReplyDeleteI have used the Zoology and Dumbdot in a different colourway and was so pleased with the results. I am expecting my first grandbaby, a boy, and would love to create something special for him with these fabrics!
ReplyDeleteJill
Love love love this collection!!
ReplyDeleteOMG. I am dying for these and just can't bring myself to spring the dough. I hope it's me! :) My son would love the animals.
ReplyDeleteLove this line!! A lot! It is harder to find boy fabric I love than it is to find girly fabric I love. But this is adorable.
ReplyDeletecraemac@gmail.com
Very cute animal print and I like the stripes too (but not together).. any of these would make cute little boy PJs or pants or button up shirts.
ReplyDeleteLove this! Wuld be great for my little guy.
ReplyDeleteLove all the boy fabrics. It is so easy to find cute girl fabrics but no so much for boys. I love all of these and made a coming home outfit out of this zoo fabric for my baby due in a few months.
ReplyDeleteMM seems to be one of the very few companies succeeding in producing cute but boyish prints...thanks! More to come in knit possibly??? :)
ReplyDeletelove these prints! i have two brand new nephews that would love some baby items in these prints.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the bicycle fabric as well as the animal print! Soooo cute. Anything Boy is so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThe colors for "it's a boy thing" are very soothing and do make me think of little boys. The thing I find funny about the whole girls=pink boys=blue is that when it comes to a girl you can put a bow in her hair and she can wear light blue and possibly some other "girly" touches and people know you have a little girl. However, if you put a boy in purple, pink, or basically anything pastel and they can't tell the difference, even if they have "boy" touches. I was originally against blue for my boy, but I bought some Michael Miller fabric that was blue and black and made a crib sheet as per your tutorial and love it! Love your fabrics!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Love boy fabrics that have style!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of the sweetest boy for this material!!! He's less than two months old and is my oldest friend's son! What a perfect color combo for him!!
ReplyDeleteI love the animals! not too sure if guys like polka dots (boys maybe yes.) but i love dots, so yeah. :)
ReplyDeleteAll smiles! Thanks for the giveaway for such great 'boy' fabric!!!
ReplyDeletec.paints [at] (yahoo) dot [com]
what a wanderful boys' collection! I enjoy the colours! And, as I have only a daughter, I would use these fabrics for her, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous "boy collection". I grew up with only sisters and almost all girl cousins. Then I had my own baby -- a boy! It was a little odd at first, looking for boy things, but now I LOVE all the boy prints and colors. And there are a lot more available than when my son was little.
ReplyDeleteThis fabric set is the answer I've been looking for! I've been wanting to make a quilt for a baby boy, but either the colors weren't right, or I didn't like the prints for a baby. And I don't want to put together my own set, its usually looks chaotic or not quite right. The Its A Boy Thing is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThis line of fabrics is adorable. I love the colors! These fabrics would make some special little boys very happy. Thanks for the chance to win them.
ReplyDeleteI teach K - 5 English Learners in Tennessee. For my two classrooms, I will be making girl bean bag chairs (2) and boy bean bag chairs (2)tomorrow, but right now, I am making book bags for their Read to Self time: Galaxy Visa material for the boys is cut and ready to go. I am off to my material store for some aqua/red flower power mix for the girls.
ReplyDeleteMy in-house three year old will look strikingly handsome with shirt made from these fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
LOVE these prints, and as luck would have it, I have 2 boys who would love them too! Thanks for the chance, fingers crossed :)
ReplyDeleteThe zoology print is my of my favorites and is a good seller on my diaper covers.
ReplyDelete1 father

ReplyDeletechoose me! i am dying to have cute boy fabric!
ReplyDeleteMy ABSOLUTE favorite collection! We just built a brand new house and these coordinating fabrics would be perfect to decorate my 2 year old boys room! And with another little one on the way....maybe I'll have a bit left over for the new one :)
ReplyDeleteThis would be a great collection to add to my stash. I have lots of neices and nephews having babies and it would be nice to always have fabric on hand to make a gift with. These are wonderful fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't have said it better myself! I love the colors, prints, concept and story board. It would be great to have more boy fabrics in my sewing collection.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my favourite fabric collection options for baby boys, though I always gravitate to the bolder scheme with reds and greens. I just wish there would be better fabric options for older boys/teens. It was an ordeal to find something appropriate for a teenage boy.
ReplyDeleteThey gray is lovely, and who doesnt love elephants and bicycles!
ReplyDeleteI just got a new grandson and he wants the "boy" prints. It would be wonderful to win this giveaway so Mimi could make his blanket.
ReplyDeletePerfect for all the back-to-school lunch bags I will be making! I have a ton of girl prints...not so many boy prints. I LOVE THESE!
ReplyDeletelove love love the "boy" colors!so modern & fresh...
