Quick and Easy Stockings with Michael Miller Holiday Prints!

Happy Holidays everyone! I am Natalie Crabtree, owner of Crabtree Arts Collective and frequent contributor to Michael Miller Fabrics patterns and blogs. This is my absolute favorite time of year. One of my favorite things about this season is giving gifts to loved ones and spreading the joy of the season. I want to start the Holiday Season off right by providing measurements for a FREE Block Pattern for Michael Miller Blog Readers! A cute and easy Stocking Block! The Stocking Block features large cut pieces, perfect for showing off your treasured Michael Miller Fabrics prints. But first, let’s talk fabric!

I was excited when Michael Miller Fabrics asked me to be a part of their Holiday Blog Hop because they have a wide variety of GORGEOUS holiday prints to choose from (Modern, Classic, Vintage, etc.).

I decided to go with Vintage! I used the Vintage Christmas Collection. It reminded me of the nostalgic side of Christmas and the Holiday Season. Everything from good old fashioned family fun, exchanging gifts, tree trimming, decorating Christmas goodies, waiting for the first snow of the season, and watching children play outside…..everything joyous and memorable.

You can find the link to the Vintage Christmas Collection here:

Here is a list of the fabrics I used for my Stocking Block project!

  • Vintage Christmas Prints For the Main Stocking Print:
    • DCX10368 Snowy Playground Cream
    • DCX10369 Time to Give Cream
    • CX10373 The Magic of the Season Cream
    • CX10371 Cozy Stripe Multi
    • CX10373 The Magic of the Season Blue
    • DCX10369 Time to Give Blue
    • CX10372 Tree Trimming Party Cream
    • DCX10368 Snowy Playground Blue
  • Accents/Basics or the Stocking Cuffs:
    • Garden Pindot Caribbean
    • Dumb Dot Red
    • Garden Pindot Gold
    • Garden Pindot Avocado
    • Garden Pindot Wine
    • Garden Pindot Nickel
    • Garden Pindot Leaf
    • Garden Pindot Peppermint

The amount of yardage required really depends on how many blocks you want to create! I suggest starting with ½ yard of several assorted prints and ¼ yard of several assorted accent prints and cut as you go!

Use the measurements provided below and, in the diagram, to cut and assemble (1) Stocking Block. (This Stocking Block requires basic sewing knowledge. Techniques include Stitch and Flip Techniques.)

Stocking Block measures  10 ½” x 12 ½” unfinished.

  • From the Main Stocking Print:
    • (1) 6” x 9 ½” rectangle.
    • (1) 4 ½” x 6 ½” rectangle.
  • From the Accent/Cuff Print:
    • (1) 3 ½” x 7” rectangle.
  • From the Background:
    • (1) 4 ½” square.
    • (1) 4” square.
    • (1) 3 ½” x 4 ½” rectangle.
    • (1) 3 ½” x 4” rectangle.
    • (1) 1” x 9 ½” rectangle.
    • (1) 1 ½” square.

Part of the fun is mixing and matching the Main Stocking Prints (Vintage Christmas Collection) with the Accent/Cuff Prints (Garden Pindot and Dumb Dot) for unique color combinations. Look for small color accents in the Main Stocking Prints, and pull those colors to the forefront using the Accent/Cuff Prints! Have fun mixing colors. Check out some of my color combinations below.

I plan to create a Throw Quilt measuring 58” x 68” unfinished using (25) Blocks. This throw quilt could easily be made in one weekend! It is quick and beginner friendly. Here are the details and a quilt assembly image below.

  • Make (25) Blocks.
  • Outer Border measuring 1” finished (Cut 1 ½” background strips).
  • Sashing & Cornerstones measuring 1” finished (Cut 1 ½” x 10 ½” horizontal sashing strips, 1 ½” x 12 ½” vertical sashing strips, and 1 ½” cornerstones).
  • Cut (7) 2 ¼” x WOF strips for binding.

I hope you enjoy creating these simple Stocking Blocks using this free tutorial! Happy Holidays friends. Until next time, keep on sewing. – Natalie

Christmas Blog Hop Guest Post by Suze Vinton

Guest post by Suze Vinton
We present another awesome project from one of our participants in the Christmas ! Welcome guest blogger, Suze Vinton. Make sure you are following along to see all the beautiful inspiration from talented makers. Links will be posted HERE

Hello everyone,

My name is Suze Vinton from Beralus Vinton Design, I am here taking over the blog to share with you some amazing Christmas prints. As soon as my daughter saw this panel from the "Vintage Christmas" collection, she went crazy over it and asked for a dress and insisted on her brother matching. Those colors are so bright and even prettier in person and Michael Miller never disappoints. I love that I was able to make my youngest match Christmas outfit.

I am always in awe with Michael Miller prints and the softness of their prints. Easy to work with and always so beautiful. My daughter always grabs her MMF prints dress 1st and will wear them until she can no longer fit in them anymore. Those prints hold a lot of washes without fading aways, lasts us years and make great hand-me-downs for years to come.

On my daughter’s dress I used the Michelle pattern from CKC Pattern . For my son, I used Porter also from CKC Pattern. Those just love wearing matching outfits and MM always have prints for the both of them.
