Cocoa Berry color story Giveaway

Congratulations!
Sally
you're the winner of last week's
please email your name and street address to:
info@michaelmillerfabrics.com

Now for today's color story:
The anchor color for this story is a deep rich chocolate brown. This warmer version of black makes all colors next to it sparkle and pop.
It's considered a basic today but around 2005 it was considered the radical  new "black".  Also, in case you're wondering, it's a trend that started on the streets of Paris - specifically with brown and pink. It sounds so silly now but it caused quite a stir, suddenly the new trend was causing a rise in handbag and shoe sales (after all you couldn't be caught wearing black shoes with brown pants!)  It also meant one more thing to think about when packing a suitcase- black pants? brown pants? 2 pairs of shoes?  decisions, decisions....
(that's one reason my purse is black and brown)

Now that brown is the accepted norm we're starting to see "white" as the "new" color to throw in the mix.
All the colors on this bed accentuate the others.

Love chocolate brown and wear a lot of it with black, but my anchor color that I always gravitate to is plum/fuscia/berry. I think it tones in so well with so many colours like olive green, navy, brown, cream, denim, grey...

This palate says one thing loud and clear: FUN! I'm a big fan of brown - it's softer and more casual than black, and is a huge staple in my wardrobe.

I like to use brown with pink and a lime green, but my go to color in quilting tends to be turquoise!

Jovanna said...

I love using black in quilting and my wardrobe to make things pop. I seem to use white with aqua though. With my home, I paint the walls a great green color, kind of a sage/light mossy green, hard to describe, it's calming, everything goes with it because, like in a garden, flowers are in all colors and their leaves tend to be green. I also love plain maple color, it's in my flooring and cabinets. However, I do love my brights & black. :-)

Leslie Fitzgerald said...

I have always loved the combos of brown and green and brown and pink and it is exciting to see them so popular now. The brown really looks nice with all the bright colors and prints!

Several years ago I needed some quilting fabrics in brown and they were so hard to find. Now they are everywhere, which is great. I love the bright colors put with the browns and whites. I have a variety of anchor colors. In my house I have a lot of taupe and blue. In quilting I use every color imaginable, but lately I buy a lot of greys because they go with almost everything. For my wardrobe it's denim blue!

The "base" color at our house is brown. We have a big brown velvet couch, and no matter which quilt I drape across it, it "goes". I've learned a lot about color from our couch, and no matter what changes we make, the couch stays the same. (We just keep reupholstering it.)

Thanks for another great giveaway.

Melissa said...

Love white...it makes everything look so fresh and bright ;)

♥Duff said...

My anchor color was always brown to accentuate my chestnut hair. Now, though, I'm mostly grey-haired so it's changed to black, a color I rarely wore. I'm actually okay with it because it complements my blue eyes nicely. This has led me to rethink a lot of the accent colors for quilts--I'm loving black with polka dots as a neutral!!

Grammasheri said...

Dark brown has a personality! Black, not so much. And bring on the clear brights! Away with the tea-dyed look and get to REAL color! Yeah!

Carolyn said...

WOWOWOW!! What an awesome giveaway! The colors are so pretty and bright. Man oh man, would I love to have those in my stash!

Red is one of my favorite colors that I use in decorating, and have lately started adding some turquoise in with the red. Love it! Thank you for the chance. :)

My anchor color is brown, I just love it! Your fabric is always so nice.

Christina said...

My anchor color is blue, but I have a lot of brown and camel in my winter wardrobe. I love the combination of brown with blue in a quilt. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Anonymous said...

My wardrobe anchors consist of mostly travel friendly neutrals - grey, black and brown. The quilt I just finished was a purple/grey mix with a reissued mid-century fabric on one side and vintage Japanese silk on the other. Next projects include door draft snakes, and sleeping masks. Perfect for adding a splash of cheerful color during the winter season! I love the 'flower power' fabric! :)

Hillary H. said...

I think my anchor color is usually blue. I do have a lot of green/earthy colors for home decor.

This is gorgeous!!!!! I will definitely be purchasing some of these fabrics <3
